Dress Up

“No one had hair like Charlotte’s, which she didn’t like. She used to beg Annie to take her to get highlights, but Annie refused. Charlotte didn’t need it, no matter how much she pleaded. She was already beautiful. The model she showed Annie was a different type of beautiful. The kind of beautiful that one could not replicate with a curling iron from CVS.”

Our Spot

“When I first started kindergarten, my grandmother walked me to and from school, up and down the path every day. We would skip and try to catch frogs while she asked me what I drew at school that day. I would get so excited talking to her that she would lead me off the path to sit on an old tree stump, so I could continue my stories a little longer before we got home. Eventually, this became a tradition. My stories would stretch a little bit longer than the path could lead, so we skipped to our tree stump and ate our M&Ms.”

It Keeps Going

“The light poured onto her quilt graciously and danced over the sleeping heads of herself and Archie. She had chosen this apartment for this very reason. Her bedroom overlooked the park wonderfully to the east while her living room faced the town square to the west, letting the light wash over her throughout the day. Theodore often spent his time sleeping in the living room. The sun did not dictate his day, but rather his stomach which desperately needed to be filled.”
